Within the framework of the of Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (FIPU) activities, in cooperation with the United Nations Regional Office on Drugs and Crime for the Middle East and North Africa (UNODC-MENA) and in conjunction with the program of the EU Global Facility on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (EU AML/CFT Gobal Facility), with the support of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau of the US Department of State (INL), two Interactive workshops on “Enhancing the Quality of Suspicious Transactions Reports,” have been held on December 19 and 20, 2023 which brought together Heads of Departments and Compliance Directors of the banking and financial sector, and the insurance sector in Algeria.

These workshops have been attended by Mr. Mohammed SAOUDIA, Head of the Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (FIPU-CTRF), and Mr. Lazhar LATRACH, President of the Association of Banks and Financial Establishments (ABEF), along with representatives of the European Union in Alegria.

This initiative aims to support efforts to improve quality and compliance of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STR) submitted to the Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (FIPU), which resulted in valuable discussions and exchange of visions on risk assessment, classification, in addition to the challenges faced by the banking and financial sector in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing. (AML/CFT).

The participating attendees expressed their interest in organizing similar meetings with the Unit Members and officials, to deepen cooperation and exchanges, in order to support national system of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, (AML/CFT).
